Syd, climbing a small ladder

My Adorable Syd, my Senegal Parrot

Syd, my Senegal Parrot, struggled to climb up this chair as the gaps were to far apart, so I had a brain wave and used one of his toys and tied them to the chair. He likes to sit behind me when I am on the computer, and wants his independence so he can get up the top himself.

Syd's favorite toy is the one with the banana the Penn Plax, he loves to ring the bell and chew the banana, must be nice flavor.

Syd the Senegal Parrot and his visit to his Doctor

Syd, my Senegal Parrot and his favorite person his Dr, Dr

Syd, my Senegal Parrot just loves going to the Doctor, of course I mean his beloved vet. Well what can I say, when he first met her she was okay, until she cut his beak and cut his toenails. After that she was his worst enemy. So now I try and file his nails myself, not an easy task in itself. I have to make a game of it, he likes my Maybe-line mascara container which is pink and lime green. He plays with that for awhile as I try and file his nails.

Back to my Senegal Parrot Syd's visit to his Dr,Dr

Yes, well it is pretty stressful for me as well to get him in his travel box to take him, I have to throw a sarong over him to get him in. Then he goes to see her, he normally likes the assistant. Then of course he get weighed I think he is a little more that the book below recommends, but he looks pretty healthy. He had put on 3grams from the previous visit, I have got the visits down to every six months, before it was every 3 months. He is going to be six years old in January. She put him in a plastic container, minus the weight of the container of course. Then on to clipping his wings, then deworming goodies and of course his vitamin injection.

Well then its home and freedom for Syd my Senegal Parrot

He does tend to sulk at first, but gets over it quicker nowadays, he is getting naughtier as well as he get older. It must be a trait of the Senegal Parrot, chewing my belts on my jeans from behind.

A day in the life of Syd my Senegal Parrot

Syd my Senegal Parrot

I wake up when it gets light in the morning, then everyone else must wake up, if I am up then so must they. I want all my heady scratches and beak scratches, and lots of attention, I am a baby in the morning and at night.
I love pure berry juice in the morning, I have a sip and then everyone has to look as I sip.
I am a spoilt little parrot, I get rusks dipped in coffee (parrots are not allowed coffee-I know), but I have had it every morning for 4 years now.

I had a bath which is quite a ritual for a Senegal Parrot

I decided to have a bath, which is dipping my head & beak in the water and then splashing my feet in, my mommy bought me a big bath, but I like to use my drinking water bowl, which I have used for 4 years now. I rush up and down my cage jumping on my swing and then back down to bath. It is so refreshing and enjoyable.

Well then I spend the rest of the morning in my house (cage), the afternoon after lunch I come out and bother my mommy or I sit quietly on the chair behind her as she works on the computer. Otherwise I come and bother her and sit next to the computer, jumping on the keyboards. I want attention, I do get bored eventually even though I have my music playing.

My Adorable Senegal Parrot Syd

Senegal Parrot, Poicephalus Senegalus

A Senegal Parrot can be adorable but they have there moods as well, like us humans, good and bad days. They can be extremely playful and talkative, absolutely like company - they don't like being alone at all. Leave the radio on or some music, it feels like company for them.

Adorable Syd, my Senegal Parrot Pictures

Food and the Senegal Parrot Birds

Vets generally tell you to give them the parrot food mix, but my dear Syd liked it for a short while and then decided it was not for him, I still bought two more packs but no mister would not eat it, decided human food was more to his liking. He of course loves veggies and fruit of all kinds, grapes, guavas, pears are his favorite. Syd also loves broccoli or he has a love hate relationship with brocoli, he will have a great big fight with raw broccoli, corn on the cob - raw or cooked is also one of his all time greats. He does have in his food bowl in the morning fresh walnuts, whole nuts/monkey nuts and sunflower seeds, I know they say sunflowers are not so good for parrots, but in his case it is not his primary seed in his diet. Syd absolutely loves the yolk of poached eggs or boiled, he can't eat it fast enough and of course he loves cooked pasta of all kinds. Spaghetti being his all time favorite pasta, of course with the sauce on it, then he holds it nicely and proceeds to chomp all the way down, sort of.

In the home with the Senegal Parrot Behavior

The Senegal Parrot can be extremely demanding, I am studying and working from home, but he can be quite demanding of your time, they need lots of attention. They can be highly entertaining though, sitting giggling next to the computer, giggles like me of course, climbing up anything that he is able to. Just on the floor he becomes this little stalker, stalking anybodies shoes, becomes this little demon. I won't talk about my ears and fingers, they've had some nice chomps on them, I have learnt to become more cautious, might just be my little adorable Senegal Parrot Pet.
